Hiatus update
Hardcore Worldbuilding has been on hiatus for over a year, and there’s a very good reason for that. I had intended this to be a twice-monthly column that I could build into something bigger. Eventually, I would have liked to create subscriber content, while also building a fanbase for my books.
All of that hinged on one major part of my life staying the same: that I would be a full-time author. Anyone who has read my posts over at Prose Poetry Code or my now-defunct Patreon will know that this did change last year. Not long after I started Hardcore Worldbuilding, I got a job as a full-stack developer; not long after that, thanks to the magic of corporate reorganization, I climbed to the role of CTO.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t leave a lot of time for writing, and my fiction had to come first. Since I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle writing an extra 5,000 words or so every month, I chose to wind down this column. It was a sacrifice I felt I had to make.
The company is currently in a kind of perpetual crunch mode, so I still don’t have time to give this place the love it deserves. So I’ve decided to start smaller. Hardcore Worldbuilding isn’t moving, but you can join me on Telegram to get updates and chat about the topic of worldbuilding the way I like to do it.
I’ll post shorter thoughts there, things that wouldn’t fit in the massive columns I wrote here. Mostly, it’ll be my thoughts on books I’ve read, news stories that seem pertinent to our craft, and whatever else feels right. It’s a public channel with public chat, because I believe honest discussion and debate should be unfiltered, uncensored.
I hope you can join me there. Thank you, and remember to keep reading.
